Paula Abdul joins The X Factor Judges Panel.
Posted in: Grammys, Reality TV, TV, Van McNeil, Videos, auditions, music

America’s sweetheart, world-renowned choreographer and pop icon Paula Abdul will join Cheryl Cole, Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Simon Cowell as a judge on THE X FACTOR, the highly anticipated singing competition series debuting this fall on FOX. Abdul, who sat alongside Cowell for eight seasons as a judge on AMERICAN IDOL, has worldwide album sales exceeding 50 million records, two No. 1 albums, six No. 1 singles, a Grammy Award, seven MTV Awards, two Emmy Awards, two People’s Choice Awards and two Kids’ Choice Awards. Abdul will join Cole, Cowell, and Reid as they travel to THE X FACTOR audition cities searching for the next global superstar or breakout music group.
“This show would never have been the same without Paula and I can’t believe I am saying this – I have missed her a lot, and I am thrilled she’s on the show,” said Simon Cowell.
“I am excited beyond words to be a part of THE X FACTOR. I couldn’t be happier to bring my love for cultivating talent and performance to such a wildly anticipated show,” said Paula Abdul. “I’m looking forward to being back with the FOX/FremantleMedia family and know that it will be an extraordinary journey — we’re going to have a blast. I’m also delighted and grateful to be sitting next to Simon again…but you might want to check back with me in a week or two!”
“Paula is not only the lovely, nurturing person that America fell in love with, but she’s also one of the fiercest competitors I’ve ever seen — which makes her a perfect fit to judge THE X FACTOR,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Paula and Simon have undeniable chemistry, and together with L.A. Reid and Cheryl Cole, I think we’ve put together an incredibly entertaining judges’ panel.”
“I’m thrilled to be working with Paula again,” says executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “A consummate entertainer in her own right, she has an extraordinary talent and generosity for nurturing performers — and her chemistry with Simon Cowell is like no other. I especially look forward to seeing her signature sensibilities in action during our mentoring rounds!”
Auditions continue in Dallas, TX, on Thursday, May 26.
THE X FACTOR is searching for undiscovered talent 12 years old or over – both solo artists and vocal groups – who are willing to brave the panel for a chance to win a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music. Imagine YOUR band, playing Summerfest. It could happen!
Posted in: USA, Van McNeil, Wisconsin, auditions, concerts, facebook, milwaukee, music, summerfest
Winner opens for major headliner on new Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard stage at the World’s Largest Music Festival, Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI!
Milwaukee-based, Briggs & Stratton, manufacturer of air-cooled engines for outdoor power equipment, and Summerfest, recognized as the World’s Largest Music Festival, today announced entries for the third annual Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands competition are now being accepted at briggsbattleofthebands.com, the contest’s official Facebook page. Music fans and bands are encouraged to “like” the page and share it with their friends. In just two years, the contest has had more than 1,000 bands enter online and nearly 1 million votes from music fans worldwide. The winner receives an all-expenses-paid trip to play Summerfest on July 2nd, rock-star treatment during their stay and helps open for a major headliner on Briggs & Stratton’s Big Backyard stage at Summerfest.
“We are very excited about this year’s Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands and all of the great talent we know will be submitting songs on our Facebook page,” said Todd Teske, President and CEO of Briggs & Stratton. “We’re especially excited to debut our new Big Backyard stage with a large video screen and gorgeous green space. The Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands appeals to many consumers who enjoy music as much as they enjoy our reliable and easy-to-use products that get outdoor work done quickly so they can relax and enjoy life.”
Last year’s winner, This is Energy, an alternative band from St. Louis, opened for Gavin DeGraw at the Big Backyard during Summerfest.
Band members met DeGraw, participated in a press tour, stayed at a luxury hotel, were transported by limousine and much more. This is Energy has since relocated to Nashville, Tenn., to be closer to the recording industry. A series of videos promoting this year’s contest were recorded in Nashville with the band and will appear over the next few weeks on Briggs & Stratton’s Facebook contest page.
“If you’re in a band that wants to be in front of thousands of fans, performing at Summerfest, the World’s Largest Music Festival, the Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands can help make that happen,” said Don Smiley, President and CEO of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. “This fan-voted contest is a great opportunity for one band to ultimately be front and center at the Big Gig, and this year’s new and improved Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard stage will only add to all of the excitement.”
Bands entering the contest should upload their music entries as soon as possible to briggsbattleofthebands.com. Fans vote for their favorite band on Facebook from March 14 to 11:59 p.m. on April 15. The top 10 bands selected by online voters will then be announced. A selection committee will determine three finalists by May 7. Fan voting will then resume on May 13 to choose a winner, who will be announced on May 28. Entry into the contest is free and additional rules/regulations are also posted online.
